I don't think whatever happened with my system is some inherent weakness in 64bit office, but rather it's just a good old fashioned case of something getting hosed deep in the bowels of Windows or a damaged file or something. Also, we do run 64 bit office on hundreds of systems with no trouble at all. It's an infrequent need on my system so I'm not worried about it at the moment as Outlook is more important. That isn't an issue for me and isn't an issue in this case. 64bit Office is every bit as solid as 32bit Office, it will just pose a problem when trying to use 3rd party plugins or when connecting Office to another program or few other rare (for us anyway) circumstances. MS recommends 32bit office because its more compatible and not because its more stable.
